Performance Outreach
Our performance outreach workshops are based on themes and material from our shows, giving participants a feel for the show prior to performance and a practical experience of material, which they will then recognise in the show. Workshops can involve a range of art forms with an interdisciplinary approach.
Assault Courses
Assault Courses are a range of intensive participatory experiences delivered through dance, drama, music, visual art and creative writing. Assault Courses are designed to enable participants to engage in creative activities through a supportive framework that encourages them to overcome obstacles and challenges, engaging them in mental and physical problem solving and skills-based learning.
Professional Training
Assault offer a range of Inset and other professional training courses to enable those involved in learning organisations to develop and enhance creative approaches to teaching and learning. We offer a range of creative learning and superlearning training supported by photocopier-friendly resource packs for classroom use after the session. Professional training courses can be for teachers, leaders and groups and can be designed with your specific needs in mind.
Performance Outreach
Workshops are suitable for all age groups and abilities. The needs of the group will be discussed prior to workshop delivery and the sessions can be tailored to suit the specific needs and goals of the particular group.
The format for workshops is flexible however all sessions will introduce participants to themes, ideas and creative approaches used by the company. Workshops can range from 1 hour to 1 day or we can tailor a programme of workshops over a number of days to suit your timetable. Participants experience an insight into creative practice and team work whilst learning/developing practical skills. Participants also have an opportunity to learn about our show and perhaps even make a mini version of their own.
Past outreach has involved community groups, schools, special needs groups and professional arts practitioners.
“Excellent workshop, very positive feedback from pupils... the idea of following the workshop with a performance generated great pupil excitement!”
Mrs Irving, Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School, Alford
“The fact that so many came to the show and didn't need to be chased. The fact that 25 or so stayed after the show to talk to the company speaks volumes.”
Dave Morris, teacher Monks Dyke Technical College
Assault Courses
Assault Courses can either focus on one specific art form, or can involve a combination of dance, drama, music, visual art and creative writing. The three types of Assault Courses that we offer are outlined below. However, all our events are tailor-made to match the requirements of each client. Each course can last from one day in length to one week or longer if required.
“Assault Event Company is well known for its enormously accessible and very cool brand of dance theatre, enjoyed as much by older members as younger ones”
Arts Specific Assault Course
Arts Specific Assault Courses allow participants to develop skills and experience in specific art forms.
Participants create an original performance or exhibition work with guidance and support from the tutors, gaining hands-on experience in the creation, development and production of an original arts event. An Arts Specific Assault Course also develops confidence, creativity, teamwork and self-esteem. Past participants have included children and young people from primary and secondary schools as well as community groups, university students and professional practitioners.
Creative Curriculum Assault Course
Creative Curriculum Assault Courses allow participants to learn about specific curriculum areas through creative arts activities.
Participants explore curriculum-based themes and ideas leading to a final event where their learning is shared with others. In the past this has included performances, presentations and celebration events. A Creative Curriculum Assault Course allows participants to engage with subject areas that they may find challenging in a creative and exciting way. This enables participants to look at challenging curriculum areas in an alternative way and to facilitate a creative exploration of difficult subject material. Past topics have included maths, science and citizenship.
Learning to Learn Assault Courses
Learning to Learn Assault courses enable participants to engage with and develop a range of learning and key skills strategies and approaches, though exciting creative activities. In the past this has included performances, presentations and celebration events.
There are two main themes in the delivery of the work:
